Why are people repulsed by gay people like Adam Lambert but not Ricky Martin?
Is it because people like Adam Lambert just enforce stereotypes about gay people, like them being promiscuous and more likely to engage in public sexual acts without any restraint, etc.? Is it because people like Adam Lambert tend to shove their gayness down people's throats, and talk about it constantly?
No bashing Ricky Martin please. He seems like an adorable guy with a good heart. Glad he found the strength and courage to be who he really is.
I'm repulsed by Adam Lambert as a person, the same way I'm repulsed by Jesse James, Jude Law, John Mayer, or any other promiscuous, seemingly amoral individual. I hate the fact that he openly endorses recreational drugs as 'fun". I hate his use of simulated violence as "entertainment". It has nothing to do with his gender preference, clothes, or makeup. I can understand his rage and his desire to "act out" against longstanding prejudices, but I don't like the way he's handling himself, or the way it's affecting people's thinking.
The difference between Adam and Jude, Jesse, or John is that he is enforcing gay stereotypes when so many normal gay people are trying so hard to fight these stereotypes. Jude, John, and Jesse are typecast as "players", but they aren't compared to all other straight men in the world.
People like Ricky Martin, Elton John, and Neil Patrick Harris are openly gay, but that's it. They seem to be low-profile, monogamous, regular guys who keep their private lives PRIVATE, and they deserve our respect.
