How do you spot fake Remy hair?
I bought two packs of hair from a site which claimed the hair was Grade A Remy. It arrived in unbranded packets and was on a weft. However, my hairdresser said that it definitely was NOT Remy because the weft was thicker than the standard quality non-Remy hair you can get. It was so thick that we had to split the middle of the weft with a razor so it lay flatter on my head. It cost £29.99 for 18inches (110g), which did seem very cheap.
Does anyone know if this sounds like Remy hair? I was thinking of complaining to the shop if it isn't but wanted to be sure first!
Remy hair has absolutely nothing to do with the thickness of the weft.
A weft can be as thick or thin depending on how the hair is sewn together.
Remy hair is jargon used in the hair world to indicate that the hair is arranged and sewn in the same direction as it grows on the head i.e from root to tip. This presumably stops or reduces tangling.
The ends of the Remy hair tends to have a slightly lighter shade than the top (weft end) as with real human hair.
The feel along the hair is also an indication but you will need to know what to feel for.
It is also very light on the head and should have movement when the wind blows. (though this applies to all human hair not just Remy)
Generally though because a lot of care and time is involved in arranging the hair in the same direction, it tends to be quite expensive.
The wefts are sometimes sewn thin to reduce the qty of hair used but this in itself not an indication of Remy hair.
Other things that contibute to the cost of the hair is the quality of the hair itself, way the hair is processed, country of origin, whether all the hair used is one length or a mixture of lengths (14" may include 10" & 12") etc etc etc
Cost will probably be more of an indication - £29.99 pounds is way too cheap but again very expensive hair does not necessarily mean it is Remy- this could just be the suppliers margin.
Some unscrupulous suppliers also mix hair with animal or synthetic hair and still pass it off as 100% human hair etc
For fairly average Remy hair, expect to spend at least £100. This could go up to hundreds of pounds..
As for complaining to the shop, if they are just distributors they may not even be aware or care.... anyway......Good luck!
