Why are there two tone knobs on a Fender Stratocaster?
There's one volume knob and two tone knobs. Why are there two tone knobs and not just one?
Actually, the 2007 answer is not completely accurate, as the middle pickup is definitely affected by the tone control and can be selected individually. For the Mexican models (and most other Stratocasters, including Squiers), the two tone controls are assigned individually to the neck and middle pickups, respectively. In the case of the American Stratocasters, the bridge pickup is (in current models, not in prior years) controlled by the same tone potentiometer as the middle. Having the two tone knobs allows for switching between the pickups without having to re-adjust the tone control (if there were only a "master" tone control), plus adds more tonal variations in the in-between pickup selections.
