Is Tidal wave the same with the phenomenon White Squall?
Saw a movie titled White Squall and read about it as an unexplained phenomenon that suddenly occur in the Ocean. May be the cause of disappearances of ships especially in the Bermuda Triangle.
I can assure you that a tidal wave and a "white squall" have nothing to do with each other.
I have sailed tiny sailboats for nearly half a century and been in several squall lines. Those are born ahead of a strong cold front. They come suddenly and the wind goes from nothing to gale force in only a few seconds. In fact, you can even see it moving toward you on the water! It is always associated with dark curly clouds, the telltales of those squall lines. If it happens at night, as I experienced it once off the Portuguese coast, it really takes you by surprise and can be very dangerous.
But it never generates high seas and certainly not a tidal wave! In order to see a swell to appear, you need a strong wind to blow over a long fetch of sea, for at least 8 hours. The characteristic of the squall line is: soon come - fast gone! It never lasts 8 hours.
A "white squall" is supposed to be a squall line appearing with no special signs in the sky. That is, in my humble opinion, an urban legend or ... to be more correct, a maritime legend. 
True, a micro-burst is never seen in the air since - as opposed to a tornado - it is sinking air, all the way to the ground. Micro-bursts can be very dangerous to aircraft low and slow in the final approach to a runway. The same micro-burst can happen, and happens at sea. But you will always see it in a typical cumulonimbus sky associated with the meta-convection of a thunderstorm over it because a micro-burst only exists because elsewhere the air rises very rapidly in unstable air masses.
A tidal wave is something entirely different and it has nothing to do with meteorology and the weather. A tidal wave is a large wave caused by a tide and - in some case - a seismic occurrence. If the latter, it is then called a tsunami, from its Japanese name. Tidal waves can occur with the rising tide in an estuary. In some places, you can see the water coming in, twice a day. At spring tides, it can be quite spectacular. Sometimes, tidal waves occur in the fjords of Greenland, when large masses of ice, forming icebergs, fall down or turn over. All those are called, tidal waves, but none have something to do with the weather and certainly not with a "white squall" or any other squall lines.
