What were considered appropriate hairstyles for older women in the 1780s?
I am an aspiring costumer and have been wondering how to fashion a historically-accurate wig for a friend of mine to wear at her book-signings. She's in her early seventies, and we are trying to find an appropriate hairstyle to fit the time-period of her book.
Most of the hairstyles I've seen from the 1780s were incredibly large and complex, and beautiful, in a way...but they all seem to be far more fitting for a young debutante to wear, rather than a mature, elegant woman.
Does anyone have any references or ideas for me? I've looked just about everywhere. The process of actually STYLING the wig is not an issue, what is needed is an accurate, detailed description (best: a picture) of what would be a good, historically-accurate hairstyle for a mature woman of the world (upper middle class, if not upper class altogether).
